How to Actually Use Flight Deal Alerts

January 27, 2026

You signed up for flight deal alerts — great. But the best deal in the world is worthless if you don't know how to act on it. Here's how to turn alerts into booked trips.

1. Move Fast

Cheap fares are like lightning — they strike unpredictably and disappear fast. The deals we send typically last 6 to 48 hours. Some of the best mistake fares last under 2 hours. When you get an alert, check it immediately.

2. Stay Flexible on Dates

The deal might be for specific travel dates. If those don't work perfectly, check nearby dates — the low fare often applies to a range of days around the dates we mention. Use Google Flights' date grid view to scan quickly.

3. Don't Overthink It

If you see a roundtrip to Europe for $300 and you have any interest in going, book it first and plan later. Most airlines offer free cancellation within 24 hours, and many budget carriers have such low fares that even a non-refundable ticket is worth the gamble.

4. Be Ready to Book

Keep your passport current. Have a credit card ready. Know your travel partner's schedule (roughly). The people who score the best deals are the ones who can say "yes" quickly.

5. Check the Fine Print

We include relevant details in every alert — airline, flight type (nonstop vs. connection), dates, and any restrictions. Read the full alert before booking so you know what you're getting.

6. Use Google Flights to Book

We link directly to the booking when possible. If not, paste the route and dates into Google Flights to compare prices across airlines and find the best option.

The bottom line: be fast, be flexible, and be ready. That's the formula for turning a deal alert into your next vacation.
