Tampa International Airport (TPA) consistently ranks as one of the best airports in the country. Here's how to make the most of it.
Getting There
Economy Parking is your best bet if you're driving — it's connected to the main terminal by a free monorail and costs a fraction of the garage. Book online in advance for guaranteed spots during busy seasons.
Rideshare pickup is on Level 1 of the Blue side of the terminal. It's well-signed and usually has short wait times.
TSA and Security
TPA has TSA PreCheck lanes in the main checkpoint. Lines are generally short — even during peak times, you'll rarely wait more than 15-20 minutes without PreCheck. With PreCheck, expect under 5 minutes.
Pro tip: The main security checkpoint serves all airsides. Once you're through, you can take the shuttle to any airside.
Food and Drinks
The airport went through a major renovation and the food options are solid:
- Airside C has the most variety, including Ulele (upscale Tampa restaurant) and a great Cigar City Brewing taproom
- Airside F has a new food court with local favorites
- Pre-security, the main terminal has a Columbia Restaurant outpost — perfect for a Cuban sandwich before your flight
Lounges
There's no Priority Pass lounge at TPA, but the Club at TPA (Airside F) offers day passes. If you're flying Delta, the Delta Sky Club is on Airside E.
The Monorail System
TPA's unique shuttle system connects the main terminal to each airside. They run every couple of minutes and the ride is about 90 seconds. Don't stress about catching one — another is always right behind it.
How Early to Arrive
For domestic flights: 90 minutes is plenty. For international: 2.5 hours. TPA is efficient enough that you'll rarely need more time than this.
